wow, was just thinking today I'd leave the Dems. Both parties have been hijacked by their extremist fringes leaving neither to serve the people of this country.

Well said Jessie, I wish I could explain it all as well as you do. Everything you said is spot on! I too have been Republican since the age of 18 but in the last few years I feel a though yes they are just a power hungry as the Dems, 99.9% of Washington is that way these days it seems. I may also be making the move to Independent here real soon! The silent majority needs to all make the move and stand up and say we are unhappy.

Let's just say I feel like a fool that I didn't vote for McClintock in the primaries instead of Arnold. I realized back then he had no chance, but I would feel better about my vote today. That bit of pragmatism leaves a pit in my stomach since Arnold hasn't done California many favors.

The thing is that I just can't call myself a Republican anymore. That's not to say I'll vote much different in the long run, though I won't be afraid to vote for the right person. I think if a true conservative runs, he'll of course be on the Republican ticket, and I'll have no problem voting for him. But if he's another McCain, who wasn't Conservative... I'll feel better voting in a way that represents my beliefs since I think only a conservative can win.

My "defection" from the party is my attempt to be part of a larger movement to bring conservatism and values back to the Party. I want the Republican Party to be my home again... until they return to looking out for the country as a whole, I can't call myself one of them. I am a conservative first and foremost.

BTW, have you read Levin's book Liberty and Tyranny? Good read, highly recommended. Glenn Beck's "Common Sense" is a good read too. You'll see many quotes from that book by me in the coming posts for sure.

Franken is a complete loon. The fact that the Democrats are giving him such a prominent place so quickly is very telling.

I'm totally feeling like watching Animal Farm. I actually believe in keeping the Republican party strong because we will never (or at least in my lifetime) be a three party system. If a bunch of us conservatives defect from the Republican side, we may just lose any little bit of conservatism this country has left. I hear ya that the GOP has stayed big time from the Reagan years.
In other news...
I think it was awesome and very fitting that Sottomayor was confirmed by non other than Al Franken. What a joke!
